- Conserving Coniston and Crake Project -

In 2019 I was commissioned by South Cumbria Rivers Trust to create a series of illustrations of wildlife that can be found in the Coniston area. SCRT summarise the project below:

ā€˜Six iconic aquatic species now feature in four stonewalls around the catchment, to highlight their plight and the work that is being undertaken to conserve them. The pieces have been beautifully carved by local sculptor Danny Clahane, on slate donated by Burlington Stone and the Holker Estate. Ellie Chaney drew the original illustrations on which Danny based his work. Stonewaller Peter Watson installed the pieces at the four sites chosen to compliment the projectā€™s conservation work. The work was supported, as is all our work on Conserving Coniston & Crake,  by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Our thanks also go to the landowners for hosting the sculptures and supporting our work.ā€™

They also write ā€˜Copies of the booklet will also be available at venues around the catchment including Brantwood and  Coniston TIC when Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions allow. As Brantwood will be closed from 21st March, the Arctic charr will be inaccessible for the moment.ā€™

Please keep social distancing and your own safety in mind - Iā€™m very much looking forward to visiting these in the future when times are safer.
